While the Bolivian Altiplano is famous for its salt flats, the Sud Lipez region stands out as one of the most fascinating and desolate yet stunningly beautiful areas in South America. Participants may encounter flamingos in high-altitude lagoons, white-tailed hawks, llamas, and, with some luck, ostriches and condors. In the Tupiza region, you might even spot an armadillo darting across the tracks at night.

The guide will plan a very flexible itinerary, often organising much of the trip on the fly to chase the best conditions. About the Bolivian Altplano
The Bolivian Altiplano is a vast plateau nestled in the heart of the Andes. It the world’s highest plateau and certainly one of the most captivating landscapes in South America.
Stretching across western Bolivia, this region is renowned for its otherworldly scenery, including the expansive Salar de Uyuni salt flats, striking volcanic peaks, and vibrant high-altitude lagoons.
At an average elevation of over 3,500 metres (11,500 feet), the Altiplano offers breathtaking scenery, a unique climate, and a rich tapestry of indigenous cultures. Its stark beauty and remote tranquility make it a haven for photographers, both landscape and astro.

Dry Climate: The Altiplano has a dry climate with low humidity, especially in the winter months. This reduces the amount of moisture in the air, which can scatter light and obscure celestial objects.
